Drug & Alcohol Detoxification Facilities in Oregon

Oregon is a fairly loose state when it comes to drug enforcement, but this does not mean drugs are not an issue there. Marijuana production is especially intense within the state, and THC concentrates are found in abundance all over Oregon. In 2017, law enforcement seized 260 illicit THC extraction labs all across the country, and 27% of these labs were located in Oregon. Additionally, in 2017, there were 81 crystal meth labs that were seized by law enforcement which is significantly higher than the national average. Aside from domestic drug production, there is also a substantial amount of drug trafficking that occurs in the state. This is mainly organized by several Mexican cartels, and local drug distribution is handled by gangs such as the Indian Brotherhood. While Oregon certainly has its struggles with drug abuse and addiction, there is also a thriving recovery community within the state. There are dozens of drug and alcohol detox centers across the state that can act as an effective first step towards a life free from addiction.

Oregon Addiction & Detox Statistics

  • According to state records, there were 564 people to die from illicit drug use in the state of Oregon in 2007 alone. This figure has only grown in the years since then due to the heroin epidemic.
  • Although heroin has become a major problem in Oregon, methamphetamine — or “crystal meth” as it’s colloquially known — is another prominent problem that many wouldn’t expect of the state. In fact, at least 62 percent of all reported arrests in Portland, Oregon, involve crystal meth in some capacity, showing just how much a problem the drug has become.
  • Recently, Oregon natives voted to legalize recreational marijuana, widely seen as a controversial move. Although the exact relationship is unclear, there are some who insist that the legalization of marijuana in Oregon is why there were 5,500 admissions to addiction treatment programs for marijuana use in 2014.
  • It may not be the first state one would think has a major problem with illicit drug use, but studies show Oregon is the fourth-worst state when it comes to past-month illicit drug use.
  • Experts who have analyzed the drug use rates throughout the state of Oregon have found that the cities along the MAX light-rail line tend to have the highest rates of illicit drug use. It’s believed that this occurs due to drug dealers using the MAX light-rail line to transport their drugs throughout the state.
