Drug & Alcohol Detoxification Facilities in Indiana

There are a large number of drug and alcohol detox centers throughout the state of Indiana. These detoxes are spread across the state, with the exception of the northern central region. Indiana also has a wide variety of detox types as well. There are providers that specialize in drug addiction and others that focus on alcohol addiction. The specific detox programs are roughly the same no matter the particular substance. Alcohol detox will be more closely monitored since alcohol withdrawal can be fatal without medical help. Drug detox is rarely fatal, with the exception of benzodiazepine withdrawal. Entering a medical detox can reduce the risks and help someone begin the journey of recovery.

Once detox has been completed, it is recommended to enter an Indiana substance abuse treatment program. There are 358 SAMHSA-approved addiction treatment centers in Indiana. Out of these rehab facilities, 28 provide inpatient treatment, 51 provide residential treatment, and 327 provide outpatient treatment. The variety of treatment options is a good thing, although it can make picking a rehab program difficult. The specific substances someone has been using can help guide this decision.

Mental health issues are also quite common among people with substance use disorders. Getting dual diagnosis care for these issues can make a huge difference to someone's chances of recovery. Drug and alcohol treatment can be helpful, but if someone has underlying mental health conditions then they may need more specialized care. Indiana has 178 dual diagnosis treatment providers that can address these issues. If you or a loved one is struggling with addiction or co-occurring conditions, these rehab centers can help you change your life.

Drug Abuse in Indiana

Indiana is in the midst of the opioid and drug crisis just like many other states. The major issues that have faced Indiana over the last 5 years are prescription drug thefts. These include pharmacy or healthcare workers as well as pharmacy burglary and armed robberies. In 2015, there were 168 armed robberies of pharmacies in the state alone. The heavy drug activity in the state coincides with increased gang activity, notably from gangs such as The Mob, 5th Ward Circle, and the Tri-City Bombers.

The mixture known as "grey death" has also shown up in Indiana over the last few years. It was previously only found in a few southern states. It is a highly potent opioid mixture that can contain heroin, fentanyl, carfentanil, and U-47700. It is extremely potent and can result in a lethal overdose from simply touching it. This is only the latest threat in a steadily worsening trend. Between 2012 and 2016, drug overdose deaths from synthetic opioids have increased by 600%.

Drug overdoses from all types of drugs are high in Indiana. As of 2017, the national average overdose rate was 21.7 per 100,000. This means that for every 100,000 people in the country there were almost 22 overdose deaths. In Indiana, this rate was much higher at 29.4 overdose deaths per 100,000 people. This is a stunning 22% increase from the overdose death rate in 2016. Indiana was in 3rd place for the greatest increase in overdose deaths from 2016 to 2017.

While drug activity is increasing throughout the state, there is still ample opportunity for recovery. There are dozens of detox centers and many more treatment centers scattered across Indiana. If someone wants help recovering from an addiction to drugs or alcohol, they have options. Recovery often starts with detox, and detox centers can make referrals to continuing care facilities. This can help give someone the best possible chance for achieving long-term recovery.
