About Behavioral Health Specialists Inc Seekers of Serenity Place
Seekers of Serenity Place — known locally as SOS — is the Columbus arm of Behavioral Health Specialists, Inc., a Nebraska nonprofit whose flagship address sits in Norfolk and whose Columbus residential building stands on Sunrise Place in Platte County. The program is set up to walk people through the full continuum of substance use care under one roof: medical withdrawal management, short-term residential stabilization, and then step-down into outpatient services for ongoing recovery support.
Accredited by the Joint Commission, SOS serves an adult population that includes veterans, pregnant women, older adults, and clients referred through the courts. The clinical foundation emphasizes cognitive behavioral therapy delivered in both individual and group formats, with a Spanish-speaking pathway available through the parent organization’s bilingual intake materials — an important feature in a community where a meaningful share of residents prefer Spanish for healthcare conversations.
Funding flexibility is part of why SOS plays the role it does in eastern Nebraska. The program accepts Medicaid, state-funded behavioral health dollars, TRICARE for service members and their families, private insurance, and sliding-scale self-pay — a payer mix designed to reduce the financial friction that keeps many people from entering residential care.
For scheduling, the Columbus campus is reachable directly at (402) 564-9994. Intake decisions are coordinated with the Norfolk headquarters, and clients moving between residential and outpatient phases can transition within the same provider system without losing continuity of care.
