About
About Brooklyn Hospital Center
The Brooklyn Hospital Center is one of the oldest hospitals in the United States and one of the most accredited addiction treatment providers in Kings County. The hospital’s substance use program operates from 121 DeKalb Avenue in Fort Greene and is anchored by its 9B Detox Unit, where medically supervised inpatient withdrawal management is provided around the clock under physician supervision.
Levels of care span medical detox, outpatient programming, and intensive outpatient (IOP). The program is a federally certified Opioid Treatment Program, allowing methadone, buprenorphine, and other evidence-based medications to be initiated during detox and continued through outpatient care. Counseling is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy, and clients with co-occurring trauma, PTSD, and dual-diagnosis psychiatric needs are treated within the hospital’s integrated behavioral health framework.
Few programs in the country hold all four of the major behavioral health quality designations: Joint Commission accreditation, CARF accreditation, Council on Accreditation (COA), and NCQA recognition. Brooklyn Hospital Center holds all of them. As a clinical affiliate of The Mount Sinai Hospital and an academic affiliate of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, the program also benefits from teaching-hospital infrastructure and specialty consultation across nearly every medical and psychiatric discipline.
Documented populations include veterans, pregnant women, young adults, older adults, men, women, clients with HIV/AIDS support needs (through the on-site PATH Center), Deaf and hard-of-hearing patients with ASL accommodation, and court-ordered admissions. Language access is exceptional, with SAMHSA listing services available in English, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Hmong, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Farsi/Persian.
