About Heartview Foundation
Heartview Foundation has been the anchor addiction treatment provider in central North Dakota since 1964, with its main facility at 101 E. Broadway Avenue in downtown Bismarck and satellite clinics in Cando and Dickinson. The nonprofit is Joint Commission–accredited and has treated more than 32,000 patients and their families over six decades — a reach that brings clients in from across the United States and Canada.
Clinically, Heartview operates a full continuum of care under one organization. The program offers medical detox, residential treatment, intensive outpatient, standard outpatient, and medication-assisted treatment, which means patients can move through the levels of care without leaving the Heartview system or rebuilding rapport with a new clinical team at every step. The current OTP expansion, supported by community grants from the Bismarck Mandan Community Foundation and Farm Credit Services, is broadening opioid use disorder capacity specifically.
The walk-in clinic model lowers the typical friction of starting treatment. Patients can arrive with photo identification, complete a comprehensive assessment with a qualified addiction counselor on the same visit, and begin the intake process directly. Importantly, Heartview’s stated policy is that patients without insurance will not be turned away — staff will help them apply for coverage as part of admission. This nonprofit posture aligns with the organization’s mission as a community-serving provider.
Heartview accepts Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, TRICARE, state insurance, and self-pay, and serves adults with substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health concerns. Family programming, including the free H.E.A.R.T. Family Support Group that meets every other Tuesday evening, extends the program’s reach beyond the patient to the household. The Recovery Chronicles podcast hosted by Heartview counselors carries the educational mission into the broader community.
