About
About Liberty Bay Recovery Center
Liberty Bay Recovery Center occupies a central role in Maine’s substance use treatment landscape, operating a fully accredited program on Portland’s Forest Avenue. Both The Joint Commission and CARF have accredited the facility, reflecting a track record of clinical rigor across multiple oversight frameworks. Liberty Bay is structured to support clients across the full continuum: medical detoxification for clients in active withdrawal, residential inpatient care, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programming for those stepping down or beginning at a less intensive level.
The clinical model is anchored in evidence-based modalities. Cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), trauma therapy, family therapy, and individual therapy form the backbone of treatment. Liberty Bay also delivers Illness Management and Recovery (IMR), an evidence-based practice for clients managing co-occurring mental health conditions, alongside grief and loss counseling. Holistic supports including nutrition therapy, yoga and meditation, art therapy, and music therapy round out the clinical experience, giving clients multiple entry points into recovery work.
Liberty Bay treats a wide spectrum of substance use challenges including alcohol, benzodiazepines, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, opioids, prescription drugs, inhalants, marijuana, and Xanax. Specialty pathways include opioid rehab with Suboxone, Vivitrol treatment, and broader medication-assisted treatment, complemented by SMART Recovery and 12-step programming. The program’s dual-diagnosis track addresses depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, mood disorders, ADHD, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and codependency.
Admissions are designed to move quickly, with confidential assessments and insurance verification handled by Liberty Bay’s admissions team. Medicaid, private insurance, TRICARE, state insurance, and self-pay are all accepted, and the program serves men and women across multiple age ranges. The Portland setting offers urban accessibility while still feeling contained, allowing clients to focus on recovery without losing access to the broader Maine community.
