About Region Six Alcohol and Drug Abuse
RESADA, formally Region Six Alcohol & Drug Abuse Co., is a non-profit corporation founded in 1977 that delivers substance use treatment to the six counties of southeast Colorado: Baca, Bent, Crowley, Kiowa, Otero, and Prowers. Headquartered in Las Animas on County Road GG, the agency has provided continuous service to the Lower Arkansas Valley for more than 50 years, framing addiction as an illness and recovery as a lifelong process supported by community, structure, and clinical care.
The core program is a 30-day residential treatment track in which clients participate in evidence-based programming in a highly supervised living environment. Complementing residential care, RESADA’s social detoxification program offers full support and careful monitoring through alcohol or drug withdrawal in a non-medical setting; clients who require medically managed detox are stabilized in a hospital before transferring. Outpatient programming, DUI education and therapy, and a Peer Connections program staffed by people in recovery round out the continuum.
RESADA accepts Medicaid and operates on a sliding fee scale, with funding from client fees, county and city contributions, private and public donations, and managed care contracts with Colorado MSOs. The agency is licensed by the Colorado Office of Behavioral Health and employs counselors certified to state requirements. Conditions treated include alcoholism, drug addiction, and a range of co-occurring concerns, with cognitive behavioral therapy and case management as core methods.
RESADA’s mission emphasizes a clean and safe environment, holistic recovery of mind, body, and spirit, and the practical reality that for rural southeastern Colorado, accessible local treatment can be the difference between recovery and relapse.
