Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) is a 1,138-bed nonprofit regional referral center in Charleston, West Virginia, and one of the state’s largest healthcare systems. CAMC operates as the flagship of Vandalia Health System — which also includes Mon Health System — and comprises seven hospitals across the region, including CAMC General Hospital, CAMC Memorial Hospital, CAMC Plateau Medical Center, and others. The behavioral health and substance use services associated with this location are delivered out of the 6 East unit at CAMC General Hospital on Morris Street in downtown Charleston.
As a hospital-based program, CAMC’s substance use services emphasize medically supervised inpatient detoxification — particularly for patients with complex medical needs, co-occurring conditions, or pregnancy complications that benefit from immediate access to a full hospital. Care is integrated with CAMC’s broader specialties, including obstetrics, cardiology, and trauma services, allowing patients to receive coordinated treatment for the medical complications that often accompany substance use disorders. American Sign Language services support deaf and hard-of-hearing patients.
