Alternative Paths has anchored Medina County’s behavioral health safety net since 1989. Operating from its Northland Drive offices, the nonprofit agency serves residents of Medina and the surrounding communities with an unusually broad mix of outpatient services—from acute crisis response to long-term mental health and substance use treatment. The 24/7 Crisis and Behavioral Health Helpline is a defining feature: law enforcement, schools, family members, and individuals in distress can call any time of day for immediate triage and connection to care.
Addiction services are organized along two main tracks: Adult Alcohol and Drug Services and Youth Alcohol and Drug Services. Programming combines individual and group counseling, CBT, and Medication-Assisted Treatment under the supervision of Medical Director Dr. Manzoor Elahi. Levels of care span standard outpatient counseling and intensive outpatient programming, with a clinical model designed for clients who can maintain home, school, and work commitments while in treatment. For higher acuity, Alternative Paths coordinates referrals to inpatient and residential providers.
The agency’s specialty programs reflect Medina County’s specific needs. The Medina County Opiate Response Team engages individuals after an opiate overdose, bringing treatment directly to those most at risk. The Driver Intervention Program serves court-referred drivers, while Diversion and Forensic Programs work alongside law enforcement, courts, and prosecutors to redirect substance-using individuals from incarceration into treatment. FDA-cleared ADHD testing rounds out the agency’s clinical capabilities.
CARF accreditation, public funding through the Medina County ADAMH Board, and a sliding-scale payment policy keep services accessible. Alternative Paths accepts Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, state insurance, sliding-scale self-pay, and financial assistance—ensuring that cost rarely becomes the obstacle that prevents a Medina County resident from getting care.
