About Yellowstone Womens First Step House
Yellowstone Womens First Step House is the women’s residential entry point within Yellowstone Recovery, a Costa Mesa-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has been operating in Orange County since 1997. The women’s house sits on East Bay Street within walking distance of local beaches and is part of a network that has helped more than 5,000 men and women through addiction recovery over the past two-plus decades. Yellowstone’s mission is explicitly affordability: as a nonprofit, the organization offers among the lowest-cost comprehensive rehab in Orange County while still walking clients through the full continuum.
The program follows a structured four-step path. Step 1 is detoxification, during which staff monitor new clients for up to roughly 10 days to alleviate withdrawal symptoms and ensure safety. Step 2 is primary residential treatment, where clients work with the staff psychiatrist and CCAPP-registered counselors using a 12-step format to address the mental, emotional, and behavioral dimensions of addiction. Step 3 is extended residential care, which deliberately keeps clients in structured housing rather than discharging them at the end of primary treatment. Step 4 is sober living, typically beginning around the 90-day mark, paired with continued outpatient aftercare.
Clinical programming includes CBT, experiential therapy, group counseling, individual counseling, art therapy, music therapy, and a notable practical skills component: resume writing, mock interviews, public-transportation orientation, and workplace ethics instruction help women re-enter the workforce after treatment. Yellowstone serves women and young adults across a wide spectrum of substance use disorders including alcohol, heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, fentanyl, prescription medications, and designer drugs, plus co-occurring mental health conditions.
Yellowstone accepts private insurance, Medi-Cal, self-pay, sliding-scale arrangements, and financing options, and the admissions team verifies eligibility with most major commercial carriers including Aetna, Anthem, Beacon Health Options, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, Magellan, and UnitedHealthcare. The program also supports court-ordered treatment placements.
