About ABC Recovery Center Inc
ABC Recovery Center is a long-established nonprofit substance use treatment program located at 44359 Palm Street in Indio, California — the heart of the Coachella Valley in Riverside County. CARF-accredited and licensed by the State of California, the program has been recognized by Newsweek as one of the nation’s Best Addiction and Treatment Centers in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Newsweek’s methodology evaluates facilities on quality of service, reputation, and accreditation, drawing from the SAMHSA-identified 25 states with the highest treatment-center concentration.
The program serves adults (men and women 18+) across a continuum that includes medical detox, a 30-to-60-day intensive residential treatment program, a 4-to-6-month outpatient program meeting two days per week, and male and female sober and transitional living. A dedicated Family Program supports loved ones impacted by addiction through education and structured family support — extending recovery beyond the individual client.
ABC Recovery Center’s mission explicitly frames recovery as more than abstinence: ‘rebuilding a life.’ The program emphasizes serving the underserved, providing a safe harbor for those who have lost everything to addiction. Treatment is delivered through what the organization describes as an individually tailored holistic and multi-disciplinary approach that integrates spiritual, emotional, and physical care. According to ABC, the program has helped tens of thousands of people overcome substance use disorders since its founding.
Leadership includes James Thomason and Clinical Supervisor Freda Addeo, a licensed marriage and family therapist. The organization is currently running a ‘Building Hope’ capital campaign to furnish and equip a new recovery campus, signaling ongoing investment in facility capacity. Located in the Coachella Valley desert, ABC offers patients an environment that is geographically removed from urban distractions and supports the immersive, intensive nature of the residential program.
