About Baldpate
Baldpate sits on 80 acres of wooded land in Georgetown, Massachusetts, about 30 miles north of Boston, with its main building housed in a New England Inn dating back to the 1700s. The facility has provided substance use services for more than 75 years and operates as a medically monitored detoxification and residential treatment program, with Joint Commission accreditation as the external benchmark for clinical safety and quality.
The clinical focus is medically assisted detox. Baldpate manages withdrawal from alcohol, opioids (heroin, fentanyl, prescription opioids), cocaine and other stimulants, benzodiazepines, and other prescribed or illegal drugs. The team uses comfort medications and standard withdrawal protocols, and the facility is Suboxone-certified, meaning the clinical team is qualified to use buprenorphine-based protocols for opioid detoxification and induction onto longer-term MAT. Patients are housed in a residential setting that pairs the medical work of detox with rest, structure, and a calmer environment than acute hospital units.
Because Baldpate is purpose-built as an acute detox and residential stabilization facility rather than long-term rehab, the typical patient stays for the duration of medical withdrawal and stabilization, then transitions to a longer-term residential program, outpatient counseling, or MAT continuation through partner facilities. Aftercare planning is part of the clinical model so that patients have a defined next step rather than a discharge into nothing.
The facility accepts MassHealth (Medicaid), TRICARE, commercial insurance, state insurance, and self-pay. SAMHSA confirms veteran services, programming for pregnant women, young adults, older adults, men, women, and HIV-positive patients, plus trauma-informed care. For New England residents in active withdrawal, Baldpate is one of the longest-running and most established medical detox options in the region.
