About
About CHOICE Program
The CHOICE Program is a specialty substance use treatment program operated by Community Health Network at 1400 North Ritter Avenue in Indianapolis, Indiana. CHOICE is built around one of the most clinically delicate populations in addiction medicine: women who are pregnant or in the postpartum period and living with a substance use disorder. Treating mother and baby together requires careful coordination between addiction care, obstetric care, and behavioral health, and CHOICE is structured to provide that coordination inside one of Indianapolis’s largest health systems.
The program is outpatient at its core, delivering Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, individual and group counseling, and integrated co-occurring disorder care. Because the population it serves often presents with high medical complexity, the program is closely linked to Community Health Network’s hospital-based detox, maternity, and psychiatric services, so women requiring medically managed withdrawal can be admitted through the hospital and then continue outpatient care with CHOICE. Co-occurring mental health conditions, trauma, and HIV-related needs are addressed alongside substance use, recognizing that few patients arrive with only one diagnosis.
CHOICE accepts a wide payment mix tailored to its patient population, including Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, TRICARE, state insurance, and self-pay. Many patients are covered by Indiana Medicaid, which provides robust coverage for mental health and addiction services, and the program’s social work staff helps coordinate eligibility and access. The Joint Commission-accredited program serves adolescents, veterans, young adults, women, Deaf and hard-of-hearing patients, and individuals who are court-ordered into treatment, in addition to its central pregnancy-focused population.
For pregnant women in central Indiana confronting substance use, CHOICE offers something many standalone rehabs cannot: a single program that pairs addiction care with maternity and pediatric services inside one health system. The program is designed to help women carry healthier pregnancies, recover from substance use, and stay connected to their newborns and their care teams after birth.
