About Comprehensive Healthcare
Comprehensive Healthcare is a community-based behavioral health organization serving central Washington from its Yakima headquarters at 307 West Walnut Street, with administrative operations also at 402 South 4th Avenue. The agency has expanded into one of the region’s largest providers of integrated behavioral health, mental health, and substance use treatment, recently designated as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). Its mission centers on innovative, integrated healthcare and community education for individuals, families, and organizations.
Clinically, Comprehensive Healthcare offers a wide continuum: detox, inpatient services, residential treatment, opioid treatment programming, adult outpatient therapy, children and family services, crisis response, and supported living. Interim Chief Medical Officer Frank Garner, MD, oversees medical care alongside a leadership team that includes Chief Quality and Community Engagement Officer Courtney Hesla and Chief Human Resources Officer Amanda Adams. Therapeutic work draws on evidence-based practices including cognitive behavioral therapy, telehealth-delivered counseling, and a recently launched “Just In Time” prescriber scheduling model that shortens wait times for behavioral health medications.
The organization treats substance use disorders alongside anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, OCD, PTSD, psychosis, schizophrenia, and suicide and self-harm risk, with a strong focus on co-occurring disorders. Populations served include young adults, men, women, older adults, and children, youth, and families, with same-day access available at many sites. Field response teams partner with 911 dispatch to bring trained behavioral health responders to crises in Yakima County. The Land Acknowledgement on the website explicitly honors the Indigenous communities whose homelands the offices and programs occupy.
Comprehensive Healthcare is accredited by The Joint Commission (Gold Seal of Approval for Behavioral Health Care), the Council on Accreditation (COA), and NCQA. The agency accepts Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, TRICARE, state insurance, and offers sliding-scale and self-pay options. Crisis lines run 24/7, and a partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) brings weekly office hours to the Yakima Center for clients and staff seeking peer support resources.
