About Comprehensive Psychiatric Center South
Comprehensive Psychiatric Center South is part of the Comprehensive Psychiatric Center (CPC) network, an outpatient opioid treatment organization founded in 1979 by Dr. Roberto Ruiz, a South Florida psychiatrist and recipient of the Nyswander-Dole Award. The South Miami clinic at 9735 East Fern Street is one of CPC’s three Miami-Dade locations, anchoring the network’s footprint in southern Miami-Dade County.
The clinical model centers on Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder. Services include methadone addiction treatment, buprenorphine (including Suboxone) treatment, outpatient detoxification and maintenance, and addiction therapy. Counseling draws on cognitive behavioral therapy and is delivered alongside dosing, with care designed to keep adults safely engaged in long-term recovery within a medically supervised setting.
CPC South serves adults dependent on opioids, with documented services for pregnant women. The clinic is SAMHSA-certified as an Opioid Treatment Program and accredited by the Joint Commission, signaling adherence to national standards for opioid treatment programs. Telehealth options support continuity of care for patients who cannot always come in person, while peer-led community recovery support — described in CPC’s blog — reinforces clinical care with lived-experience connection.
The South Miami clinic accepts Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, TRICARE, state insurance and self-pay, and operates under sponsorship that includes the State of Florida Department of Children and Families. With more than four decades of operating history under Dr. Ruiz and a clinical team that has grown to include additional addiction-medicine physicians, CPC South is one of the longest-running OTPs in South Florida.
