Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries (DRMM) has anchored Detroit’s response to homelessness and addiction since 1909, making it one of the longest-running rescue missions in the United States. With more than 117 years of continuous service, the faith-based nonprofit now operates more than ten sites across Detroit and Highland Park, including the Anglin Street treatment facility that serves as a hub for residential substance use treatment and withdrawal management.
Clinical services are organized into two major addiction programs: withdrawal management for individuals stabilizing from acute substance use, and residential substance use disorder treatment for sustained recovery work. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy informs the clinical curriculum, integrated with faith-based counseling and spiritual life programming that is core to DRMM’s mission of treating ‘the total person – mind, body, and spirit.’ The organization partners with the Michigan Department of Corrections and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to receive court-referred and publicly funded admissions.
DRMM serves an unusually inclusive population: homeless veterans, men in recovery, women managing financial precarity, pregnant women, women with children, young adults, seniors, Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals, and people living with HIV/AIDS all fall within its scope. Beyond treatment, residents may access meal services, transitional and permanent housing, job training, youth summer camp at Wildwood Ranch, and reentry support – a wraparound model that addresses the social drivers that often precede or accompany addiction.
The organization is CARF-accredited for its treatment programs and has been awarded a 4-star rating by Charity Navigator for governance, accountability, and transparency. Payment options are designed for accessibility and include Medicaid, sliding-scale fees, financial assistance, and state insurance. There are no fees attached to most DRMM services for those who qualify.
