FMRS Health Systems has been serving southern West Virginia since 1969, when it was originally organized as the FMRS Mental Health Council to provide community-based behavioral health services across Fayette, Monroe, Raleigh, and Summers counties. The agency was renamed in 2001 to reflect its expanded mission, and today FMRS operates as a private, not-for-profit comprehensive provider integrating mental health, substance use treatment, intellectual and developmental disability services, primary care, and crisis response under one organizational umbrella. The Raleigh County office at 101 South Eisenhower Drive in Beckley is one of several FMRS locations across the region.
Clinical services span the full continuum of care. The Crisis Stabilization Unit provides short-term inpatient stabilization for behavioral health emergencies, and the agency operates both Adult IOP and Adolescent IOP programs through online referral pathways. Residential treatment and outpatient counseling round out the substance use services, supported by medical detox capacity and assertive community treatment for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness. Day treatment, supported housing through group homes, and community-engagement programs reflect FMRS’s mission of meeting consumers where they are rather than expecting them to navigate fragmented services.
Beyond traditional behavioral health, FMRS provides IDD services for adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, primary care to integrate physical and behavioral health, and prevention programming including the Regional Prevention Center. Children’s behavioral health services are offered alongside adult programs, making FMRS a family-accessible point of care across generations. Telehealth video conferencing supplements in-person care, an important feature in a rural region where transportation is a frequent barrier.
Financial access is broad. FMRS accepts West Virginia Medicaid, Medicare, TRICARE, commercial private insurance, state insurance plans, and offers a sliding-scale fee schedule for clients with demonstrated financial need. Private pay is available for clients without insurance.
