About Parallax Center Inc
Parallax Center, Inc. has anchored outpatient addiction treatment in Manhattan’s Murray Hill neighborhood for more than three decades, operating from the sixth floor of 145 East 32nd Street between Lexington and Third Avenues. The program brands itself around ‘Supervised Detoxification and Substance Use Program’ and combines ambulatory detox with full outpatient treatment under a dual NY OASAS license: 816 for outpatient medical withdrawal and 822 for the outpatient treatment program.
Clinically, Parallax is best known for its non-opioid withdrawal protocol. Rather than using opioid medications to manage withdrawal, the program uses a specific protocol that induces patients onto naltrexone, an opioid receptor blocker, which the website describes as supporting rapid restoration of normal brain function and healing of the opioid-impaired nervous system. The center also runs traditional outpatient programming with individual and group therapy, telehealth, and integrated medical and psychiatric services – all delivered through a strength-based, person-centered, and trauma-informed approach.
Dr. Alexandra (Alexa) Fingesten serves as Medical Director and has held that position since 2002. She is a Primary Care Physician with expertise in Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine, overseeing all medical services including psychiatric and detoxification protocols. CEO Jacques Nir, LCSW, SIFI, is a Columbia University School of Social Work graduate who leads both the 816 outpatient medical withdrawal program and the 822 outpatient treatment program.
Parallax detoxes and treats clients from alcohol, opioids (including heroin, fentanyl, prescription opioids, and kratom), benzodiazepines and sedatives (Xanax, Klonopin, Ambien, GHB), stimulants, hallucinogens (MDMA, LSD, ketamine), and inhalants. Specialized programming addresses DUI/DWI cases. Populations served include veterans, pregnant women, young adults, older adults, men, women, clients with HIV/AIDS support needs, and court-ordered admissions. Services are offered in English, French, and Vietnamese, and the program accepts Medicaid, state insurance, private insurance, and self-pay.
