About Project Reality
Project Reality has operated as a nonprofit substance use treatment provider in the Salt Lake City area since 1970, making it one of the longer-running opioid treatment programs in Utah. The clinic, located on South Commerce Drive in Murray, holds CARF accreditation and is recognized by SAMHSA as a Certified Opioid Treatment Program. Project Reality publicly reports having served more than 10,000 patients since its founding.
The clinical model is built around medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder. Project Reality is one of the few Salt Lake County providers offering all three primary MOUD options — methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone — under one roof, alongside integrated primary care and mental health services. The clinic’s stated philosophy is that ‘no one is turned away, regardless of their ability to pay,’ which translates into a broad payer mix that includes Medicaid, Medicare, TRICARE, private insurance, state insurance, sliding-scale, and direct financial assistance.
Project Reality’s team is unusually well-documented for a community OTP. Leadership includes Executive Director Maureen Collins (CMHC), Medical Director Katherine Carlson (MD), Clinical Director Ivana Micic (LCSW), and Coordinator of Medical Services Krista Byrd (PA-C). The medical team also includes physician assistants Chad Barnett, Jessica Miller, Natalie Cisney, and Taylor Christiansen, all PA-C credentialed. Governance includes board chair Peter Weir, MD, reinforcing the clinic’s nonprofit and medically supervised character.
