About Recovery Place Inc Recovery Square
Recovery Place Recovery Square is the Savannah-based addiction and behavioral health center of Recovery Place Inc., which has been operating in coastal Georgia since 1984. The organization has earned CARF accreditation and a designation as a “best practices model facility,” and reports having helped more than 20,000 individuals complete treatment programs over four decades. It is the region’s only comprehensive behavioral health and substance abuse treatment provider, with a continuum that ranges from acute detoxification through 28-day residential care into a full spectrum of outpatient services.
The clinical spine of the program is its Acute Detoxification service for safe, supervised withdrawal management, followed by a 28-Day Residential Program for short-term intensive care. Step-down options include Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient Rehabilitation, and Level One Outpatient — meaning a single client can move through five distinct levels of care without ever changing organizations. This continuum is especially important for clients with co-occurring mental health disorders, as Recovery Place treats substance use alongside depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, mood disorders, eating disorders, process addictions, gambling concerns, anger-management issues, and unresolved grief.
Leadership combines clinical and operational depth. CEO Leslie Backus directs the organization, COO and Clinical Director Diane Diver, MBA, CAC II, LCSW, leads clinical operations, and Medical Director Nancy Backus, MD, oversees the medical detox and psychiatric services — with a board-certified fellow in psychiatry, licensed professional counselors, and certified staff making up the broader clinical team. Specialty programming includes a Survivor’s Workshop Therapy program for clients carrying core trauma issues, a Professional Resource Program for individuals in safety-sensitive positions (pilots, pharmacists, nurses, doctors, veterinarians, dentists), an eight-week Family Education Program, men’s and women’s residential tracks, and the 16-bed Oak House standalone eating-disorder program.
Payer-wise, the program accepts Medicaid, private insurance, and self-pay/cash. Virtual care has been added since 2020, allowing clients to participate from any internet-connected device. The Savannah location’s combination of detox, residential, PHP, IOP, and outpatient under a single CARF-accredited roof makes Recovery Place a substantive option for clients across coastal Georgia and the Lowcountry.
