About Stonington Institute
Stonington Institute is a substance use and behavioral health provider headquartered at 618 Poquonnock Road in Groton, Connecticut, with an inpatient detox campus in nearby North Stonington. The Joint Commission-accredited program spans the continuum from medically supervised detox through partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and step-down outpatient services, with the option of sober living lodging at the Inn at Trails Corner.
Detox is delivered on a 26-acre rural campus in an unlocked, campus-style therapeutic environment for adults with histories of heavy or prolonged alcohol or other drug use. The detox unit is led by a Clinical Director with licensed clinical staff and a dedicated discharge care coordinator who works with clients on the transition into PHP, IOP, or sober living. Every detox client is introduced to a 12-step model of recovery during stabilization.
A defining feature of Stonington Institute is the Patriot Support Program, a co-occurring residential rehabilitation track designed specifically for active-duty personnel across all branches of military service. The program acknowledges the specific stressors of military life and the co-occurring trauma, PTSD, and substance use patterns common in service members. Stonington is also registered with SAMHSA as serving veterans, pregnant women, seniors, young adults, and clients who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
Leadership has been stable under William A. Aniskovich, M.A., J.D., who has served as CEO of parent organization Stonington Behavioral Health, Inc. since 1995. The program accepts Medicaid, private insurance, state insurance, and self-pay, with confidential level-of-care screenings available by phone.
