About

About UF Health Shands

The UF Health Florida Recovery Center (FRC) is the dedicated addiction treatment service of UF Health Shands, the academic medical system of the University of Florida. The program has served patients from across the United States for more than twenty-five years and was ranked the No. 1 addiction treatment center in Florida and No. 5 in the United States by Newsweek. FRC carries the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval and was the first treatment facility accredited by the Federation of State Physician Health Programs.

Clinical care follows an integrated, evidence-based model that addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of recovery, anchored in the 12-step method and reinforced with cognitive behavioral therapy and group work. FRC treats the full range of substance use disorders, including alcohol, benzodiazepines such as Klonopin and Xanax, opioids such as heroin, oxycodone and fentanyl, stimulants like cocaine, methamphetamine and Adderall, and marijuana. As an academic medical center program, FRC can manage co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions in coordination with other UF Health services.

The new 5.6-acre northwest Gainesville campus, near the UF Health Psychiatric Hospital and Springhill medical offices, offers modern three- and four-bedroom residential apartments with private and semi-private rooms. Patients have access to a pool, pickleball court, gym, business center, and dedicated individual and group therapy spaces. The continuum of care includes medical detox, residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and standard outpatient services, plus multi-day comprehensive evaluations for patients referred from across the country.

FRC accepts private insurance and self-pay; the admissions team verifies benefits and works with patients on billing arrangements. An active alumni community keeps graduates connected to fellowship long after discharge, reflecting the program’s emphasis on continued recovery and peer support.
