About Volunteers of America
Volunteers of America Northern Rockies operates one of Wyoming’s most comprehensive addiction treatment campuses in Sheridan, on College Meadows Drive. As a faith-based nonprofit chapter of the national Volunteers of America organization, VOA Northern Rockies provides substance use treatment, mental health services, veteran support, housing assistance, and re-entry programming across Wyoming, Montana, and western South Dakota. In a recent reporting year, the chapter served more than 10,000 people across the region, including over 3,700 individuals receiving behavioral health services in Wyoming and nearly 3,000 veterans.
The Sheridan addiction treatment campus offers a full continuum of care including medical and social detox, residential rehabilitation, outpatient services, medication-assisted treatment, and recovery homes for ongoing community living after primary treatment. Programs are grouped into distinct living environments tailored to specific populations — Center of Hope, Harmony House, Life House (for women with young children), and Gathering Place. This structure allows clients to receive care in an environment matched to their gender, family situation, and clinical needs, while still drawing on shared clinical staff and a common holistic recovery model.
VOA Northern Rockies is CARF accredited and White Bison, Inc. certified — a meaningful credential for the program’s Native American Services track, which integrates culturally specific recovery practices with evidence-based clinical care. Programming weaves cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-informed care, and holistic recovery practices with optional faith-based counseling that reflects VOA’s broader ministry roots.
The campus accepts Medicaid, TRICARE for active and retired military, most major private insurance plans, and self-pay arrangements. Veterans, pregnant women, women with children, men, and court-referred clients can all access care. Admissions begin with a phone call to the VOA admissions team and an assessment using ASI/ASAM criteria; clients are encouraged to coordinate with their local Community Mental Health Center to complete that screening. Following residential treatment, clients can transition to VOA recovery homes, outpatient services, or veterans transitional housing depending on next-step needs.
