About William J McCord
The William J. McCord Adolescent Treatment Facility is the inpatient adolescent treatment arm of the Tri-County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (TCCADA), a South Carolina county commission established in 1972. The facility is licensed and accredited by the Joint Commission and serves adolescents from Orangeburg, Bamberg, and Calhoun counties, alongside the broader TCCADA network of outpatient and prevention services.
The McCord program is built specifically for teens, with comprehensive inpatient treatment that targets the physical, mental, and emotional health concerns that often accompany adolescent substance use. Clients move through assessment, individual and group counseling, family work, and step-down planning into adolescent outpatient services. TCCADA also operates outpatient teen programming for clients who do not require an inpatient admission but still need structured intervention for substance use, mental health concerns, or family and school stressors.
Because McCord is housed within TCCADA, the family of a treated adolescent has access to a broader system of care. The Commission provides Behavioral Health Counseling, Prevention services through initiatives such as For the Love Of and The StoreFront Project, the South Carolina ADSAP (Alcohol and Drug Safety Action Program) for DUI clients, and Employment-Related Services including DOT physicals, drug screens, vaccinations, EAP, and CPR training. This breadth lets the same county-affiliated agency support an entire family system rather than only the teen in care.
Payment options reflect TCCADA’s mission as a public substance use authority. Medicaid, TRICARE, private insurance, and self-pay are accepted, with sliding-scale fees for families that qualify. The Commission’s goal, as stated on its website, is to be there for individuals and families ‘when you think you have nowhere else to go,’ making the William J. McCord Adolescent Treatment Facility an important regional resource for teen recovery in the Midlands of South Carolina.
